Abstract

Used cooking oil, which is leftover cooking oil, can be reprocessed into goods or preparations that have added value, one of which is by processing it into solid soap. In soap preparations, additional ingredients are often added, such as aloe vera, because of its antibacterial activity and its properties that can moisturize and soften the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the formula and physical properties of transparent solid soap, a combination of used cooking oil and coconut oil, with the addition of aloe vera. The study used an experimental method. The soap was made in 6 formulas with variations in used cooking oil: coconut oil (gram) F1 = 0:29; F2 = 29:0; F3 = 6:23; F4 = 12:17; F5 = 17:12; F6 = 23:6. The soap was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, water content, foam height, free alkali, and unsaponifiable fat. A homogeneous soap preparation was obtained, F1 is yellow, F3, F4, and F5 are orange, and F2 is brownish orange in color, lavender-smelling, and solid in form. pH is following the range of SNI 3532:2016, which is 9 - 11, except for formulas 2 and 4. The height of the foam after being shaken is in the range of 5.2 ± 0.83 - 7.2 ± 0.29, and after being left for 5 minutes, there is a decrease. All formulas meet the requirements for good water content for solid soap preparations, which is less than 15%. The results of the free alkali and free unsaponifiable fat tests show that all formulas have not met the required parameters.
